This week we read It's Okay to Be Different by Todd Parr. The book is pretty straightforward with pages such as, "It's okay to have a big nose.", and "It's okay to do something nice for someone else." When we were done, I asked the kids if everything that was okay was in the book. They all said yes, of course, because they think that teachers do not try to trick them. Ha! I tricked them. I said, "I'm wearing a red shirt. Is that okay?" They all said yup. "Well, that's not in the book." Now they were getting it. We decided to think of more pages to Todd Parr's book. We came up with a bunch. In these pictures you can see the kids' ideas. I am going to email them to Todd Parr to see if he likes the improvements we made on his already excellent, but abridged, book.Other things of note from this week:
- We made carrot muffins on Wednesday and they were delicious.
- Emma brought in a jar that had a salamander inside. We were able to observe it at science.
- We added Light Brights to the science area for the week.
- When we counted up all of our counting jar objects, we had 105. (Each of the 15 kids collected 7 items to match the number of people in our counting jar).
Beth, we stopped by the Fairfield Center School today and saw Ella's "it's okay" contribution on the bulletin board!! She was very proud to have her work in the "big school". We also stopped in to visit Mrs. Day's kindergarten classroom. We know Mrs. Hale and have visited her class many times, but just in case Ella should have Mrs. Day for a teacher, we thought it was good to meet her and familiarize Ella with that class as well. Ella was wearing her Halloween costume (its costume day at gymnastics) and we ran into Mrs. Carol for whom Ella had a big hug. It was a fun visit to the "big school".
